Ani Aprahamian, Freimann Professor of Physics at University of Notre Dame and Director of A. Alikhanyan National Laboratory of Armenia (AANL), gave an invited talk on "Superheavies in Space" at the IUPAP International Conference on Heavy Nuclei and Atoms from April 25-29, 2023 in Yerevan, Armenia in honor of the 90th birthday of Yuri Oganessian. The designation of the conference was "Science Brings Nations Together" in tribute to the international collaborations that resulted in the new elements of the last row of the period table of elements and the quest beyond for new elements. Calculations indicate that new elements beyond Z=118 up to Z=174 are possible. The challenge will be to produce them in the laboratory and to quantify their chemical properties.

Professor Aprahamian is one of five Vice Presidents of the General Council of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). IUPAP representation in the USA is carried out by the Science Academies. The IUPAP was established in 1922 in Brussels with 13 Member countries and the first General Assembly was held in 1923 in Paris. It currently has 60 country members and is the only international physics organization that is organized and run by the physics community itself. Its members are identified physics communities in countries or regions around the world.
