Freimann Professor of Physics Michael Wiescher was invited to give the opening talk at the 17th International Symposium on Nuclei in the Cosmos (NIC XVII) that was held at the Institute for Basic Science in Daejeon, South Korea, from September 17-22, 2023. While there, he also gave an interview to the press on the enormous progress the South Korean nuclear physics community has recently made in the development of the Rare isotope Accelerator complex for ON-line experiments (RAON) nuclear physics facility in Daejeon. Like KIA and Hyundai on the automobile market, RAON will be a strong competitor in nuclear physics research to the U.S. and European efforts.
