Facility

The NSL operates three accelerators on-site. The Pelletron tandem accelerator of the HV FN type is primarily used for the nuclear structure and astrophysics program, as a driver for the TwinSOL radioactive beam facility, and for Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (AMS). A 5MV single ended (5U) NEC Pelletron accelerator hosts an experimental program in low-energy nuclear astrophysics for both light ion and heavy ion beams. Whereas the 3MV Pelletron tandem is used for applied nuclear physics work, including Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) measurements for material analysis.
